![]() I suspect it was probably partially the cost of Nigel Marvin, but I would greatly prefer a more in depth walkthrough in the future. I still don't know how to resize objects and I don't know how to change the terrain too much beyond water and plants. My only real major complaint is that the tutorial, while nice, really skips over a lot of things. They just look fantastic and their animations and sounds are fantastic. Also thank god for being able to release animals with just a mouse click instead of needing a bunch of vets to ferry the animals back and forth.) I think it's the fact that they are accurate dinosaurs and mammals. but something about it is extremely compelling. They also want to do Pterosaurs and Aquatics but nothing is confirmed as of right now. Link isn't working anyways. ![]() Definitely brings nostalgia of the various Walking with short series (such as Sea Monsters), and the other things he's starred in related to it. The fact they managed to get Nigel Marvin to not only narrate the trailer, but to be a character in the game is amazing. The accurate animals, and species roster is something else I'm in love with (though I truly hope they expand to including Paleozoic animals at some point, even if as DLC, if not at the very least the classic Dimetrodon). I mean I've been keeping an eye on updates here and there over the past several years. What a beautiful trailer, and what looks to be such a beautiful game. ![]()

![]() Because each of these choices creates a set of payoffs linked to further choices down the line, all management decisions can be thought of in terms of options. But companies in every type of industry have to allocate resources to competing opportunities whether in existing businesses or new ventures, they have to decide whether to invest now, to take preliminary steps reserving the right to invest in the future, or to do nothing. Indeed, our work in the energy sector reveals that a number of excellent performers do instinctively or intuitively view their investment opportunities as real options, positioning themselves to tap possible future cash flows without making a final decision to invest until the potential is confirmed. The value of keeping one’s options open is clearest in investment-intensive industries, such as oil extraction, in which the licensing, exploration, appraisal, and development processes fall naturally into stages, each pursued or abandoned according to the results of the previous stage. 'The pricing of options and corporate liabilities,' Journal of Political Economy, 1973, Volume 81, Number 3, pp. and specifically on the observation by Stewart Myers of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that Black-Scholes could be used to value investment opportunities in real markets-the markets for products and services. Fischer Black, who died in 1995, was mentioned in the award citation. Myron Scholes and Robert Merton were awarded the 1997 Nobel Prize in economics for their financial-options valuation model. This case builds on the model developed for financial options by Fischer Black and Myron Scholes as modified by Robert Merton, 1 1. The managers reevaluated the company’s portfolio, and instead of letting blocks go for a notional amount, they decided to hold on to those with high option value and to sell or trade the rest at their revised worth. In other words, the managers should apply the notion of options, as conceived in financial markets, to their own business situation.Ī simple financial model showed the company’s managers how to price blocks at their option value over five years, incorporating uncertainty about the size of the reserve and oil prices and leaving room for a flexible response to the outcome. Left with unwanted blocks that were consuming cash (albeit very little) and that had limited investment appeal, the company decided to sell them to other companies that would buy them, cheaply, for reasons of geography or strategic fit.Īt one point in the divestment program, it was suggested to the company’s managers that, instead of calculating what the blocks would be worth if the company started developing them immediately, it should value its opportunity as an option to develop if, at some point in the future, recoverable reserves could be increased through the use of new drilling and production technologies. Where the blocks proved uneconomic-as most did, usually because development costs were too high in relation to expected revenues-development was shelved. Where net-present-value (NPV) analysis suggested that the economics were positive, the company drilled and developed the blocks. Over 30 years of operation, one North Sea oil company accumulated a portfolio of license blocks-five-year rights to explore and produce oil and gas. ![]() ![]() 238000006011 modification reaction Methods 0.000 description 2.238000005516 engineering process Methods 0.000 description 3.230000000644 propagated Effects 0.000 claims description 2.230000004044 response Effects 0.000 claims abstract description 12.Assignors: MICROSOFT CORPORATION Status Active legal-status Critical Current Adjusted expiration legal-status Critical Links Publication of US20070143684A1 publication Critical patent/US20070143684A1/en Application granted granted Critical Publication of US8301636B2 publication Critical patent/US8301636B2/en Assigned to MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLC reassignment MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLC ASSIGNMENT OF ASSIGNORS INTEREST (SEE DOCUMENT FOR DETAILS). If someone bleats to you about any of this being a “free speech” issue, you can safely mark them as either ignorant or pernicious - probably ignorant, as the understanding of what “free speech” means in a constitutional sense here in the US is, shall we say, highly constrained in the general population. This is a perfectly valid reason, in the sense of “valid” meaning “allowing people to be creepy isn’t inherently illegal, and we make money because of it, so we’ll let it happen.” But while it makes sense that the folks at Reddit are either actively or passively allowing “we’re making money allowing creeps to get their creep on” to be muddled with “we’re standing up for the principles of free speech,” it doesn’t mean anyone else needs be confused by this. Reddit allows all those creepy subreddits because its business model is built on memberships and visits, and the dudes who visit these subreddits are almost certainly enthusiastic members and visitors. Personally speaking, when everything is boiled down to the marrow, I think the reason Reddit tolerates the creepy forums has to do with money more than anything else. Reddit chooses to tolerate creepiness and general obnoxiousness for reasons of its own, in other words, and not because there’s a legal or constitutional reason for it. From a legal and (United States) constitutional point of view, people who post on Reddit have no “free speech” privileges they have what speech privileges Reddit itself chooses to provide them, and to tolerate. ![]() Reddit is not a public utility or a public square it’s a privately owned space on the Internet. The “free speech” aspect of this is largely nonsense. This is all interesting stuff, to be sure, and naturally I have a few thoughts on these topics. Wrapped up in all of this are various chest beatings about free speech and whether someone’s online anonymity is sacred, even if he is a creep, the culture of Reddit in particular and the Internet in general, and in a larger sense where the rights of one individual - say, a creepy middle-aged dude - begin to impinge on others - say, young women who don’t believe that merely being in public is an invitation to be sexually degraded. It also resulted in Reddit globally banning links from Gawker (since rescinded, although forum moderators (“subredditors”) can choose to block links within their forums - and do), and various bannings due to discussion of the drama. I’ve been watching with some interest the drama surrounding Gawker writer Adrian Chen revealing Reddit user/celeb/moderator/troll Violentacrez’s real life identity (Michael Brutsch), which among other things resulted in Brutsch losing his job, presumably because Brutsch’s employer was not 100% comfortable employing someone who spent his days moderating online forums with titles like “Chokeabitch” and bragged about the time his 19-year-old stepdaughter performed oral sex on him. ![]() ![]() ![]() Scientific calculator for chemists translates the chemical formula into mathematical text, and replaces the element symbols with their atomic weight. Period and comas are equivalents as decimal separator in numbers (3,2 + 4.3 = 7.5). Positive numbersĮnter a positive number by pressing the appropriate digit keys (or buttons) and, if necessary, the decimal point key. To perform basic mathematical operations use the following arithmetic operators: addition ( +), subtraction / minus sign ( -), multiplication ( *), division ( /), and power ( ^). For example, numbers rounded to a 4 digit like this: decimal number 1.2345, integer number 35269.0000 and scientific number 3.5269 e-31. This calculator can round mantissa under scientific notation, also. Results can be rounded to a user-specified number of decimal places (max 12-digit). For example, 10 3 would have the kilo prefix, 10 6 would have the mega prefix, and 10 9 would have the giga prefix. This is so that the numbers align with SI prefixes and can be read as such. In scientific notation, numbers are written as a base, b, referred to as the significand, multiplied by 10 raised to an integer exponent, n, which is referred to as the order of magnitude:īelow are some examples of numbers written in decimal notation compared to scientific notation: Decimal notationĮngineering notation is similar to scientific notation except that the exponent, n, is restricted to multiples of 3 such as: 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, -3, -6, etc. It is commonly used in mathematics, engineering, and science, as it can help simplify arithmetic operations.
